Biggest-ever seizure of ecstasy in Canada MONTREAL - Canada Customs officials and the RCMP say they have made the biggest seizure of ecstasy in Canadian history.
Agents in Montreal seized 260 kilograms of the drug in powder form. They say that's enough to produce 2.6 million individual doses.
The drugs were hidden in a container aboard a ship that came to Montreal from Belgium this summer.
Customs confiscated the drugs, but traced the movement of the container to Vancouver afterward.
The container arrived in Vancouver on Aug. 29. Chi Fai Leung, of Burnaby, B.C., was charged with possession on Sept. 11.
"This is a multi-agency inter-provincial investigation that has stopped a dangerous drug from entering communities across Canada," said RCMP Superintendent Bill Ard, in a prepared statement. "This reconfirms the RCMP's commitment to detect, disrupt, and prosecute organized criminal activity."
Ecstasy is an amphetamine-type recreational drug often consumed by club-goers.
